Daily habits for healthier skin ✨

by Jade Newton |

Did you know that the better your skin condition, the deeper, more even and longer-lasting your tan will be. With this in mind, here are some of our top tips for improving skin condition in preparation for tanning.

Up your water

Not only does increasing your water consumption encourage clearer skin, but it also means you are hydrated for longer. The more hydrated you are, the less likely it is for your skin to shed as quickly. Staying hydrated is KEY to helping your tan last as long as possible and deepen future tan results. Dry skin not only slows down your tan results, but it also means that your skin will shed faster. The faster your skin sheds, the faster your tan will fade and become uneven or patchy. By upping your water and ensuring you’re drinking at least 2 litres of water per day consistently, you are hydrating your skin from the inside out, slowing down the natural shedding process and encouraging deeper future tan results.

Moisturise daily

The more hydrated your skin, the better condition it can be in and the better your tan will be. Therefore, for those looking for the best hydration possible, moisturising daily is a great way to restore skin’s soft and suppleness. We recommend the best times to moisturise for the best impact are:

  • After showering or bathing
  • After hair removal
  • After tanning or sunbathing

For the deepest moisturisation, our Hemp Nation collection are all reviewed 5 stars and have been designed by tanners FOR tanners with the aim of making your skin glow and your tan last as long as possible. These moisturisers contain no alcohols or other drying ingredients, unlike many high street moisturisers, and have added skincare ingredients which work to deepen your natural tan, care for tattoos or plump the skin with collagen 😍

SPF is your super power

Did you know that SPF should be applied daily year-round? Not only does SPF work to protect against UV during the summer months, but it can also act as a barrier on the skin. This barrier function can guard against environmental stressors, the cold and harsh winds too; all of which can dry out skin and cause irritation.

Our line of sun protection is also rich in skincare ingredients which are not only popular with those with prickly heat, but also are reviewed positively for this moisturising properties, helping to keep skin hydrated.

Hands off!

The more you pick, poke and play with your skin, the more irritated it can be and the more dirt you can transfer. Not only can this clog pores, but irritating the skin can also lead to you picking further. With this in mind, this can lead to uneven shedding, a patchy tan and more likelihood for discomfort.

Check your pot and lid symbols

Did you know that all tanning lotions, moisturisers and SPFs have an expiry? This follows the classic pot and lid symbol as per all cosmetics. We advise you keep an eye on these when using skincare, as this demonstrates how long your cosmetics will work to their best ability. What’s more, this is especially important with SPF, as after the pot and lid symbol’s expiry, the sun protection strength will slowly lessen, making it less protective. Keeping your cupboard stocked with fresh lotion is the best way to ensure the best tanning results, and skincare performance.

Diet

Did you know that your diet can have an impact on your skin’s condition and appearance? With that in mind, eating foods which are high in Beta Carotene such as red and orange vegetables and leafy greens actually work to encourage a deeper hue to the skin. What’s more, these are also rich in antioxidants and vitamins which work to improve skin’s condition for enhanced and longer-lasting tan results.

Have you also considered upping certain vitamins in your diet? Vitamins C and E both work to improve your skin condition. Vitamin C is ideal for brightening and smoothing. It also works to encourage the stimulation of collagen and elastin, to plump skin for a more youthful appearance. Plus Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant which may be effective at reducing any possible UV damage, and reduce the appearance of scarring.

Have you also considered using a TanShot Xtra before your tanning session? These are supplied or can be requested in salon and are a tanning and beauty drink, designed to give you 2 of your five a day. These work to help improve your skin condition from the inside out, ultimately enhancing future tan results as well as extending the life of your current glow.
